<anchor\/><\/code> element is a reference point in the XML document, that can be used to point to by other elements. We use the <anchor\/><\/code> almost exclusively as the second part of a\u00a0<delSpan\/><\/code>, which denotes a larger passage that was canceled\u00a0in its entirety, or otherwise 'marked as used'. Because <delSpan\/><\/code>s typically do not abide to the usual nesting rules, we cannot use normal start-and-end tags to mark these passages. Instead, we need to use two empty elements, and link them together to mark the extent of the deleted passage. The first of these two empty elements is the <delSpan\/><\/code> element (see: <delSpan><\/a>), and the second element is an <anchor\/><\/code> element, further detailed below.<\/p>\n
